Children's Product Safety Warning Jewelry for children under the age of three is intended as "keepsake" jewelry and not for everyday use. Please be aware that our jewelry does contain small parts. Do not leave children unattended while wearing jewelry. If breakage occurs small parts could pose a choking hazard. Remove jewelry before bath time, while sleeping or napping, while riding in a car seat, and during unsupervised playtime. CPSIA Act of 2009 Congress has passed new safety laws regulating the manufacturing of childrens products. These regulations apply for children 12 years old and younger. The Gingham Grasshopper is fully compliant with the CPSIA Act of 2009. All the materials used in our baby and children's products, including jewelry, comply with the new regulations. The lead limitation for children's products was designed to continually drop over time and has now dropped to 100 ppm (parts per million). Swarovski crystals can no longer meet these limitations. Therefore, we are replacing their use with Jablonex fire polished glass (lead free). We also use natural pearls, semi-precious gemstones, precious gemstones, lead free cubic zirconia, and Cultura faux pearls. All of these materials are lead free. We use Swarovski crystals for adult and teen jewelry. These crystals are quite safe, and beautiful and have no restrictions for anyone over the age of 12 years. The metals used in all of our jewelry are sterling silver, 14 karat gold and stainless steel. All of these metals are lead free. Many items formerly on the market for children are quite safe for their use, however, time will be required for endorsement of these items. We will update this notice as time goes on and exemptions and/or corrections are settled. If you have purchased jewelry for your children that uses Swarovski crystals, there is no need to panic. We believe these crystals to be perfectly safe. They have undergone a variety of tests for extractable lead, including an acid test, and the lead levels extracted remain well below the regulatory amount. However, they have yet to be cleared by the Federal government so we have been forced to remove them from our jewelry. While you should be cautious of cheap metal jewelry (often imported), we understand that our customers are responsible adults.
